Bamboo Dress Socks - FAQ

Is bamboo good for dress socks?

Yes! Bamboo fiber is a great material for dress socks and most socks really - because of a few really cool characteristics. See below for a quick list of what's good about bamboo dress socks.

- Bamboo yarn feels wonderful against the skin. It's really hard to beat how it feels wearing it. Bamboo fiber is super-soft and feels a whole lot like a fine cashmere against. It's legit amazing and a significant upgrade to even the finest cottons. Bamboo is hands-down one of the most comfortable yarns on the market.

- Bamboo is a rare breathable natural fiber that also has excellent wicking properties to keep your dress socks dry.

- Bamboo also dries 3x faster than cotton and this keeps your feet dry and comfortable.

- The other big benefit of bamboo is its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, which means that it resists the growth of bacteria and helps to eliminate foot smell.

We'll go into detail in the sections below...

Are bamboo socks hard-wearing?

Bamboo fiber is durable and strong but also soft providing a high level of comfort. However, like other fabrics made with natural fiber, the durability depends on how you treat the socks – for instance, if they are washed loose in hot water with high heat in the dryer over time it will impact all bamboo dress socks and any sock for that matter.

For best results, we recommend that all our customers wash our socks inside out in our Mesh Sock Wash Bag on a gentle cycle and dry with low heat.

If you have any issue whatsoever with our socks, let us know and we'll make it right.

Maybe we're biased but we're pretty confident that DeadSoxy makes the best bamboo socks on the market. We've hired the sharpest product team on the planet and put 1000s of hours into product development to make sure that our customers have a fantastic experience with our socks.

DeadSoxy socks are made from the finest and softest bamboo yarn so your feet feel as good as they look.

What are the best dress socks?

It depends on what you're looking for in a dress sock.

To us, the best quality dress sock is one that feels super-soft, lasts a while, stays up on the leg, and doesn't have an annoying seam on the toe for starters. If a dress sock doesn't at least have soft premium yarn and flat seams, it's a non-starter and shows they're not paying attention to the details. Oh, and we want an arch-support because socks sliding and repositioning around our feet doesn't feel great.

Beyond that, sock style is important but it's really a personal preference if you like Merino wool socks yarn over Pima cotton socks or if you prefer mid-calf dress socks more than over-the-calf dress socks.

We prefer a mid-calf sock but it must stay in place on the calf. This is another hard stop for us, which is why we invented and patented some cool tech that we put into our dress socks called TrueStay®. All dress socks that we've produced in the last few years have the tech baked in. When it comes to our yarn preference, we like wool, bamboo, modal, lyocell, and cotton socks and we use all of them in different product programs.

There are several brands making quality dress socks well today. We think we're one of the best - if you try our socks and don't love them, we'll make it right.

Are bamboo socks sustainable?

There is some debate about bamboo rayon socks being sustainable.

On one hand, the bamboo plant is a biodegradable renewable resource that doesn't require pesticides or fertilizer that can grow as much as a foot in a single day. Since the plant is cut at the base and the roots remain, it will keep growing as long as there is space and the ground remains moist. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth and an entire harvest can completely replenishes in a year. To further illustrate the sustainability of bamboo as a yarn, when compared to cotton, bamboo uses roughly 1/3 of the amount of water and requires 80% fewer pesticides, herbicides, and fungicide treatments to yield the same amount of yarn.

On the other hand, although bamboo fibers are one of the most sustainable on the planet, the treatment process can be harmful. The bamboo plant is treated with water and sodium hydroxide to remove all but the organic cell fibers. And, if this water were to escape the plant and get out in the world, it could be harmful.

Our socks are produced on a closed-loop system to ensure the untreated water never leaves the plant. Once used, the water is treated and cleaned, and reused in a closed loop.

It's worth noting that if the water is treated and cleaned bamboo socks are considred very eco-friendly.

Do bamboo socks smell?

The reason most feet smell is because of bacteria that thrive in the moist, warm environment. When feet sweat, they release moisture and heat which creates an ideal environment for microbes. When microbes thrive they produce more waste and that waste is what causes the odor. Yep, it's their waste...

Bamboo yarn has natural anti-odor qualities for a few reasons. Bamboo is naturally antibacterial. Meaning microbes, fungus, and bacteria can't thrive in it or on it. It's certainly not a 100% solution if the problem is already there but it's a significant improvement over most other natural fibers.

Bamboo also has a natural ability to resist odors simply because it wicks moisture and drys super fast.

Do bamboo socks stop your feet from sweating?

Nope. Unfortunately, if your feet sweat more than usual, they're probably going to sweat no matter what sock you wear.

But, don't let it get you down... I bet you didn't know feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body by far. An average pair of feet have 250,000 sweat glands and produce half a pint of perspiration a day.

If you're on the fence about bamboo dress socks, go ahead and give them a shot. They'll probably wear and perform better than what you have now because they dry super fast and pull moisture away from the skin in style.

Are bamboo socks breathable?

Yes. Bamboo is known to be porous and airy and one of the most breathable fabrics on the market. For a sock to be considered breathable, air needs to flow in and out of the yarn and through the knit and around the foot.

Are bamboo socks made from bamboo?

Yes, of course, bamboo socks are made from bamboo... The bamboo plant is cut off at the base and will ultimately end up as the yarn that's used to knit and craft the socks that we wear.

It's hard to believe that a bamboo plant can be turned into something as soft and useful as socks.

Are bamboo socks good for sensitive skin?

Bamboo socks are great for sensitive skin for a few key reasons.

Bamboo is a gentle organic yarn that is designed to be smooth and non-irritable. If you’re prone to skin conditions like eczema, bamboo socks are a good option for you. Also, bamboo is an excellent choice for anyone who has allergies or sensitivities to other fabrics that contain chemicals like nylon, polyester, and acrylics, etc.

Bamboo socks are also great for sensitive skin since they're hypoallergenic and antimicrobial - most allergies come from bacteria, fungi, or other microorganisms that find their way into your socks. Also, the non-allergic properties of bamboo might provide some relief to those who have lived their lives dealing with socks that agitate and irritate.

How do I care for bamboo dress socks?

Like any other sock, bamboo dress socks are also machine washable and dryer friendly - you can wash them in the washing machine and put them in the dryer.

However, like other natural fabrics, if the socks are washed loose in hot water and dried with high heat in the dryer - over time, it would have an impact on any sock.

For best results, we recommend that all our customers wash our socks inside out in our Mesh Sock Wash Bag on a gentle cycle and dry with low heat.
